Yay!! It's here: the first long weekend of the school year - WOOT!!!!!!! I am looking forward to the extra day to spend with my peeps, hanging out, eating turkey, decorating for Halloween, maybe pick a pumpkin.....
That's right! Starting tomorrow, Friday, October 5th, the Pumpkin U-Pick will be open at Lester's! We have a lovely Darth Vader costume in which to dress a purty ol'pumpkin, so you can bet we'll be popping in to get one :-)
Thanksgiving weekend also means....Fall Fairs! The Feast of Pottery and the Topsail United Church Annual Harvest Festival Celebrations will include events all weekend long, while Oktoberfest will feature crafts from various artists on Monday at the Reid Centre.
Annnnnd, guess what? Family Fun at The Rooms starts up again this weekend! I know, right?? Whoo-hoo! This week's theme is "Fall Fun" and children will discover how to make a basket from birch bark and view Beothuk examples in the Connections Gallery. Then, kids can celebrate fall by finding out that not all maple leaves are the same with some colourful activities. 2-4 Sunday.
Also, this weekend at the Avalon Mall you can pop in to pick up a box to fill for Operation Christmas Child - shop for some items to bring joy to a child in need and return the box to spread some Christmas Cheer (yes, yes it is that time of the year when when we all prepare for Christmas!).

PS: Friday is World Teacher's Day, and it falls right on Thanksgiving! A brilliant opportunity to thank the teachers and caregivers in our lives, if you ask me ;-) Teachers influence, guide, nurture and encourage our children and are a vital part of their lives - so lets show them how we truly appreciate all their hard work!
