- That it IS possible to have 13 degree (positive, above zero) weather (with SUN!) in NL in the middle of November!!!
- According to a study done by The New England Journal of Medicine back in the 70's (!!), the following WILL stop the hiccups for 19/20 people afflicted - swallowing 1 tsp of white granulated sugar! I thought it was about time we spread the word, don't you? If you try it, let me know how it worked! (Real Simple Family magazine, Fall 2010)
- Dr. Weil, the integrative health guru, was on a Dr. Oz show that I taped recently (check it out online: www.doctoroz.com). He indicated his top 5 foods for optimal health would be the following:
- to protect against cancers:
- cooked Asian Mushrooms (must be cooked as they are indigestible if you eat them raw and can not get the benefits );
- whole soy foods (think edamame, soy milk, soy nuts, tofu, etc - not processed, soy & not supplements);
- vegetables from the cabbage family
- to protect against inflammation:
- healthy fats (i.e.: olive oil & canola oil for cooking; walnut oil & hazelnut oil on salads however do not heat these last two)
- to keep blood sugar steady:
- whole & cracked grains as they digest slowly (where you can see the grains; al dente pasta is okay - but once it is overcooked the starches change and become less healthy)
