What To do This Weekend - Enjoy Out-of-the-Ordinary Adventures!

EDIT: Per a notice on http://www.stjre.com/, the Activity Day/Camp at the St. John's Racing & Entertainment Centre in the Goulds, wheire staff were to take you through a regular day in the life of a Standard bred racehorse, has been cancelled for July 30th and will be rescheduled.

If you were looking forward to hanging with horses, the Rainbow Riders Event on the 31st is still on, so drop by their Rainbow Riders Family Fun Day Event and support this great cause!

Don't know about you folks, but I had an interesting day - appointments and a visit, in between I patched up a majorly scratched up knee and, at the end of it all, headed to emerge with Toad as he fell off a neighbour's monkey bars and landed smack on top of his head! (He is fine, no signs of a head injury, but he may now be finally convinced that hanging by the feet is not a good idea ;-)

All that to say.... bring on the weekend!

The fun is starting early this weekend too! In addition to the George Street Festival, this weekend also marks the start of the St. John's Time: 11 days straight of festivals and fun activities throughout the City!

On Friday, don't miss a very exciting parachute demonstration by the SkyHawks, the Canadian Forces Parachute Team! They plan to jump at 2 p.m. over Bowring Park and land in the Jamie Morry Soccer Field, with a demonstration and an autograph session following the jump... an out-of-the-ordinary adventure if ever there was one ;-)

On Saturday... well, there are so many options for this Saturday that it boggles the mind! Head to Paradise for SunSplash 2011 and treat the kids to carnival rides, games booths, food booths, chances to win prizes and a concert featuring local bands! Or, if you prefer, visit the St. John's Racing & Entertainment Centre in the Goulds, where staff will take you through a regular day in the life of a Standard bred racehorse. There will also be horseback riding, face painting, free t-shirts (while supplies last), and a free BBQ with hamburgers, hot dogs and pop. Bring along apples and carrots and make new, four-legged friends ;-) For younger children, there is an Art workshop at Admiralty House Museum in Mt Pearl, geared towards children 3-5. And that night, don't miss out on the 11th Annual Victoria Park Lantern Festival.... a spectacular sight! Of course, if you have energy left, and have a sitter handy, then George Street awaits ;-)

Summerfest 2011 starts Saturday afternoon (2-4PM) in Pippy Park and continues on Sunday as well. Also on Sunday: the Rainbow Riders Family Fun Day from noon to 4PM. this event will include pony rides, a barbecue and canteen, face painting, nail painting, games, bouncy castles and a silent auction. I had not heard of the organisation until a participant emailed me about the event.... check out their facebook page to learn how their horses help physically and mentally challenged children achieve things they may have thought impossible!

And... all this in addition to the Lunchtime Concerts, SBTS Festival, Family Fun days and other ongoing events around the City - check out my calendar for over 20 events and activities to choose from this weekend!

Have a good one ;-)

For details on events in & around town, check my events calendar regularly - it is on the bottom of EVERY page :-) The Tely Go Guide published in Arts & Life section every Thursday is also a good source.

If you have something to add to the Calendar, please let me know! Complete details can be found here and I welcome being added to any "Events Distribution list" your facility might have :-)
