Sunday Snippets

Tidbits of information I picked up this week:
  • Compared to those who eat bigger, fewer meals, "grazers" are less likely to get colon cancer, diabetes, arthritis and other ailments; have steadier moods and lower levels of stress hormones; have a healthier immune system and better cholesterol levels and tend to be leaner and live longer! Dr. Sears recommends the "Rule of Twos": Eat twice as often, half as much and chew twice as long. (Prevention, September 2010)
  • When it comes to building strong bones, we all know calcium is essential, but vitamin D is another key nutrient -calcium supports the bone growth, while vitamin D improves calcium absorption. So, in addition to milk, yogurt and cheese, eggs, salmon and spinach also help improve your bones. Build them up now to avoid problems when you are older! (Health.com)
  • Halloween Costumes? Try "Static Cling" (stray socks, underwear, etc pinned to black clothes) or a "Deviled Egg" (make fried egg from Styrofoam with a yellow circle for the yolk, put on over devil costume)...too cute! (Today's Parent, October 2010)
  • All out of make-up remover? Try olive oil! There are a ton of other "homemade beauty" recipes on beautylish
Hope you are having a good weekend!
