In the States, Black Friday - the day after the Thursday thanksgiving Holiday - marks the start of the holiday shopping season and, rumour has it that it is the day many retail outlets go from being "in the red" (owing money for stock bought and wages) to being "in the black" (making a profit). It has been a mega-shopping day for well over 50 years - according to Wikipedia, even in the early 60's there were traffic jams due to the number of shoppers out & about!
I guess, with the high CDN dollar and the ease for the bulk of mainlanders to cross the border, combined with the popularity of online shopping, Canadian retailers felt they had to offer similar sales here - they all seem to be promoting specials for tomorrow and the weekend! Here are a few I thought I would bring to your attention:
Toys R Us - Stores open 7AM. 1/2 off select toys. Spend $100 or more and receive $15 off a future visit. They will also have online specials on Cyber Monday (Monday coming).
