Event Highlights
Event Update - Sears Canada reports that it will perform a free diagnostic inspection of its customers' smooth-top or coil element electric range for any customer that contacts Sears experiencing similar issues to those indicated in the August 2009 and October 2010 safety notices but whose range model and serial number are not included in these previous recalls, to verify whether the range is functioning properly. Sears has set up a dedicated phone line (1-866-691-9948) to address this matter and assist our customers with their concerns.
Health Canada, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Frigidaire Canada, and Electrolux Home Products, Inc. report of a recall involving certain Electrolux ICON® smoothtop cooktops with rotary knobs and digital displays, and certain Frigidaire® and Kenmore Elite® freestanding smoothtop electric ranges with rotary knobs and digital displays.
Liquids can pool under the control knob and cause the surface heating element to turn on unexpectedly, heat to temperatures other than expected and then not turn off, posing a risk of fire and burn hazards to consumers.

▲According to the US CPSC, Electrolux has received 70 reports of incidents, including three reports of fires that resulted in property damage. Three minor burn injuries were reported.
The Frigidaire/Kenmore affected units were sold across Canada from approximately June 2001 to September 2008. The Electrolux affected units were sold across Canada from approximately January 2005 to August 2010.
Corrective Action:
Electrolux - Consumers should immediately stop using affected units and power off the cooktops at the circuit breaker. Contact the company for information on how to obtain a free repair kit.

Frigidaire/Kenmore - Consumers should immediately stop using the affected units and contact Frigidaire (or Sears Canada if the unit was purchased there) to schedule a free repair. Consumers should confirm that they have one of the affected products by checking the serial plate, and matching both the serial and model numbers provided above.
Consumer Contact: Consumers should contact Frigidaire toll free at (877) 609-7857 from 7 am to 8 pm Eastern Time, Monday - Saturday. They may also visit the recall websitehttp://www.smoothtoprangerecall.ca/. Consumers who purchased their product at Sears Canada should call Sears Canada toll free anytime at (866) 691-9948, Monday - Saturday.
