What To Do This Weekend - Mummers, Movies and Your Last Chance TO Shop a Craft Fair!

Here we are again, another later-than-usual What to do this Weekend post! What can I say - it's a busy time of year!

Today, we took our kids to see Rise of the Guardians - exciting stuff! Santa sports Naughty and Nice tattoos, the Easter Bunny is a tough dude with boomerangs and an Aussie accent and Jack Frost is all about a good time....when the world's children are threatened by Pitch Black, aka the Boogie Man (some darker/scarier parts here, so keep that in mind for younger kids), these much-loved children's heroes and their fellow guardians strive to protect them. Truly a feel good movie we all enjoyed - even my DH LOVED it, which is saying something (he stayed awake for the whole thing!!). It is in 3D at the Avalon Mall - put it on your fun list!

Not that a trip to the mall is your only option this weekend - the Mummer's Parade is on Saturday!!!! Whether you watch pr participate (all are welcome), this is not to be missed. It leaves from Bishop Field Elementary School on 46 Bond Street at 2:15 (line up at 2 pm if taking part) and will continue to the Rooms, where there will be a Mummer's Parade Concert and Jam Session at 3PM.

Another fun event this weekend will be the Last Chance Gift Fair at the Holiday Inn on Sunday from 10 AM - 4PM. In addition to many fantastic local crafters and vendors, there are also amusements for the kids: Sassy Tuna will be there from opening until 1pm as well as Fun with a Twist... twisting balloons and making very unique creations! Admission proceeds and donations go to Ronald McDonald House!

Oh, and last but not least, Sunday marks the last night of Hanukkah 2012! Even if you don't celebrate it, it is a wonderful time to teach the children about different beliefs within our culture and province. Consider making some kugel or latkes (yum), explaining the gelt tradition (and them giving them some, part of which they may give to charity), or make a dreidel to play with. We like to listen to the Bare Naked Ladies Holiday album which features traditional Christmas and Hanukkah tunes all in the same CD!
