What to Do This Weekend - Doors Open St. John's

What will you be doing this weekend? I suspect quite a few folks will be fixing up their property or surveying the damage. But if you do have some free time on your hands, why not check out Doors Open St. John's. During this event, buildings that are normally closed to the public and/or charge an entrance fee are open to visitors for free. What a wonderful way for you and your family to enjoy the architectural history of our city and visit some cultural venues! This years participants include, among others: Eastern Edge Gallery; George Street United Church; Hindu Temple St. John's Association; James J. O’Mara Pharmacy Museum; Newfoundland Sikh Society Gurdwara & Cultural Centre; and the Railway Coastal Museum! There is surely something for everyone at this event!

I did verify that the event was still going ahead - and it is. The only venue affected by the hurricane thus far is MUN Botanical Gardens, and even that is expected to be up & running come Saturday. For a complete up-to-date listing of locations and times, you can visit their website at:

http://www.doorsopendays.com/communities.asp?id=34.

I think my first stop will be the gardens, followed by a visit to CBC studios to let the Autobots see the behind-the-scenes world of broadcasting! Check it out!
