...Don't get me wrong - I value my country (and therefore Canada Day, which happens to fall on Memorial Day in NL), love Christmastime and the annual Ode-To-Chocolate at Easter, but Remembrance Day is extra-special. Why? Because no matter what faith you follow, which political path you choose, whether you are a Canadian first or a Newfoundlander above all, on this day we unite, not just as a province or a country, but with Nations and Peoples all over the world to honour and remember the LIVES and the BRAVERY of those souls who lost their lives to protect ours and those who are willing to do so. We remember those few who have not only fought for our freedom, but who continue to stand up for the freedoms and rights of others all over the world.
Honour them today...
....honour them as you indulge in an extra day with your family, enjoying the life they protect...
....honour them by taking a moment to discuss the World Wars and other conflicts with your children....
....honour them by educating your kids on the role our soldiers continue to play in peacekeeping the world over....
....honour them with a minute of silence at 11:11....
....honour them at the War Memorial or a Veterans Parade....
....And since it is 11-11-11, make a wish: a wish for Peace, Happiness and Kindness EVERYWHERE...
